Abstract

The article discusses a study which investigated unique specializations in the tail of Malagasy dwarf chamaeleons (Brookesia) associated with the use of the tail during locomotion. The researchers used three-dimensional synchrotron X-ray phase-contrast imaging, which demonstrated specializations of the inner ear. It was concluded that there was a link between the evolution of a terrestrial lifestyle in Brookesia and the evolution of a unique mode of locomotion.
