Abstract

The article reports on the favorable action on state pensions in the U.S. with the approval of the Mastick old-age pension bill by New York Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt which would provide organized aid to old and needy citizens. The fact that there will always be poor people remains the basis of arguments in favor of state pensions, while cost figures is the economic reason for the spreading popularity of state pension plans. Unemployment though adds to the many causes of old age dependency and wipes away the savings of workers.
