Abstract

The article provides information on the Melbourne Longitudinal Studies on Healthy Ageing Program (MELSHA). The MELSHA study was established in 1990 because of the growing recognition in Australia of the importance of promoting the health of older population. The Victorian Health Promotion Foundation has provided financial support for MELSHA's researchers, practitioners, and program planners. A brief description of the health issues emphasized by MELSHA as well as its strengths and weaknesses is presented.
