Abstract

The article provides information on the evolution of the Butte Digital Image Project (BDIP) to conform to the interests of the community. It was launched in July 2009 by the Butte-Silver Bow Public Library (BSBPL) in Butte, Montana, formerly known as the Butte Free Public Library, to create digital replacements of monographs and pamphlets in the library collection dating from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. BSBPL will also make a digital collection of privately owned historical images, documents and other materials.
