Abstract
- The article discusses the development of genetically-altered seeds as a political product of the Vichy regime in France between 1940 and 1944. The author discusses the proto-fascist state policies of the Vichy government, the relationship between agricultural biotechnology and World War II politics, and the importance of seeds in providing a sufficient supply of food for the country. Topics include autarky, plant genomes, and genetic modernism. The article also addresses ontology, biopolitics, and the influence of Vichy agricultural advancements on the history of France after World War II.
