Abstract

The article reports on the discovery of evidence that Mary Queen of Scots did not approve a plot to assassinate Queen Elizabeth by British Home Office criminologist Ainsworth Mitchell. The letters to Anthony Babington expressing approval of the assassination plot did not come from Mary but from her secretary, William Maitland of Lethington. Mary was executed at Fotheringhay Castle on February 8, 1587.
