Abstract

The article offers information on the personal and professional life of French president François Mitterrand. He was born in 1916 in Jarnac, France and his father, Joseph Mitterrand, was a railway stationmaster. His upbringing was seemingly strictly Roman Catholic and petit bourgeois. Mitterrand's political career started in 1944. In 1971, he became head of the Socialist Party and masterminded the five-year Socialist-Communist Common Program in 1972.
