Abstract

The article reports on the attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II at St. Peter's Square, Vatican City. The pope was commemorating the 90th anniversary of Pope Leo XIII's pioneering when he was shot at by Mehmet Ali Agca. After being shot at, the Pope stood immobile for an instant and then collapsed backward into the arms of his personal secretary, Monsignor Stanislaw. He was then taken to the Gemelli hospital in Rome, Italy.
