Abstract

The article offers information on the 12 day visit of Pope John Paul II to Brazil. The main reason for the visit as seen by the clergy and bishops of Brazil was to bridge the gap between Brazil and the Vatican City. Relations between Brazil and Vatican City went sour due to Vatican's investigation of Leonardo Boff, Brazil's leading proponent of liberation theology. John Paul during his visit also touched on the problems faced by Brazil.
