Abstract

The article reports on the evolution of the wine industry in the U.S. It states that wine drinkers are once thought to be immigrants or rich sybarites but Americans are drinking wines on usual occasions. Moreover, 95% of the wine that Americans drink is from the U.S. and almost all U.S. wines are from the 22,000 Californian vineyards. It mentions the emergence of winemaking industry in the late 1930s and the efforts to promote wine consumption.
