Abstract

The article reports on the German's response to the U.S. plea for help in redressing the U.S. loss of gold. It notes that economic affairs minister Ludwig Erhard formally handed U.S. ambassador Walter Dowling a seven-page financial aid plan. The plan includes an early repayment of 787 million dollars debt to the U.S., a prepayment of 350 million dollars on current U.S. arms contracts, and an increase in Germany's share of NATO housekeeping costs by 18 million dollars.
