Abstract

The article focuses on the appearance of U.S. President Dwight Eisenhower before the National Citizens for Eisenhower Congressional Committee at Statler Hotel in Washington, D.C. in June 1954. He was serenaded by the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet at the lobby of the hotel. He laid down a pitch for his legislative program before 500 district leaders. His speech has reportedly demonstrated his ability to combine honest partisanship with a nonpolitical appeal.
