Abstract

The article discusses the enthronement of Hussein Ibn Talal Ibn Abdullah el Hashimi as the third King of Jordan and Feisal as the third King of Iraq on the same day in May 1953. The two kings are described as both Hashemites and cousins, who were also educated at Harrow in England. King Hussein has promised to eliminate government inefficiency and bureaucracy. Among the challenges Feisal faces as king of Iraq are the country's high illiteracy rate and nationalist fanatics.
