Abstract

The article features the U.S. general store Sears, Roebuck & Co. It was run by Robert Elkington Wood, who took advantage of the rising U.S. birth rate by investing 300 million U.S. dollars in 92 new Sears stores in the U.S. and Latin America in 1952. Clothing manufacturer Julius Rosenwald helped the general store fill orders and became its biggest supplier. Under the guidance of General Robert Wood, Sears achieved mass-merchandising success.
