Abstract

The article reports on the move of the tabloid "News" to publish the names of several citizens of New York to whom the state government is indebted of about 5 million dollars in income-tax refunds in 1952. It was noted that such move was a smart circulation strategy for the tabloid. The tabloid reportedly convinced the U.S. Treasury to publish the names to recover the refunds. Also noted is the decision of the Internal Revenue to issue the names of those people to any periodical.
