Abstract

The article features "Le Figaro," a French daily founded in 1826 and published in Paris. The paper considers itself the voice of the Catholic middle class and has been virulently anti-communist. Some time ago, their stance caused the French Communist Party to burn its papers and attack its offices, but such increased their circulation to 400,000. Its managing director is Pierre Brisson, who has refused to resign despite attempts to fire him by the publication's owner, Yvonne Cotnareanu. The paper's history since its founding is described.
