Abstract

The article deals with the turnover of the power of India's princes to republican administration. In 1949, Deputy Prime Minister Vallabhbhai Patel gained the approval of the Congress for his plan to pension off the princes. Aside from accepting a 75 percent cut in income, the princes have handed over the government for at least 700 million rupees' worth of securities, palaces and lands. Prince Nizam of Hyderabad will receive 5,000,000 rupees annually, while Prince Talukdar of Kadodia will receive 192 rupees a year.
