Abstract

The article traces the developments in child rearing in the U.S. Doctor Celia B. Stendler of the University of Illinois notes that the mother is advised to immediately cater to the needs of the baby in 1950. It is recommended that a child be taught to be unselfish and obedient in the 1900s but after a decade, stern discipline was suggested. Stendler stressed the need for parents to develop insight into their own personalities to intelligently approach problems of child rearing.
