Abstract
- Is there a moral problem if a society governed by elected rulers maintains economic arrangements under which a significant proportion of the citizens work hard and well without earning enough for a good life? In this paper I argue that there is. I shall refer to the minimum income sufficient for a good life as the "good-life minimum" and shall argue that its establishment as the minimum wage is morally incumbent upon the citizens of a democratic society.
