Abstract

The article focuses on the struggles that occur between tribute-collecting soldiers and smugglers who are involved in the opium export in Laos. It states that the opium poppy are suitable to grow in the fields located between the borders of Burma, Laos and Thailand, and the annual harvest provides 90% of the world's opium supply. It mentions the fight between Chan Chi-foo's men, Chinese soldiers and the Laotian infantry that ended up killing men from all sides which settled nothing.
