Abstract

The article discusses the preparations for the visit of Pope Paul VI to the U.S. in 1965. It states that the preparations started from September 9 when the Pope announced that he accepted the invitation of United Nations (UN) Secretary-General U Thant to speak at the General Assembly. It says that Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) men and New York City police, worried over an assassination attempt, placed potentially dangerous anti-Catholic fanatics under surveillance.
