Abstract

The article offers information on the 60 bareknuckle rounds that took place in Eton College in London, England, that resulted in the death of a young boy. The fight was between then 14-year-old Francis Ashley-Cooper and 15-year-old Charles Wood. Ashley-Cooper died due to a rupture of a big blood vessel in his brain. As to the aftermath of the event, it was not for 40 years that a Commission of Enquiry was sent to Eton, which was part of an inquiry into the conduct of nine leading schools. John Keate remained as headmaster for another nine years.
