Abstract

The article discusses the Bavarian Lutheran Church which is the only Protestant church left in West Germany that does not permit the ordination of women. It mentions some innovations that occur in Bavaria like the bishop who can give special permission to a woman to celebrate the Eucharist. However, there are three Bavarian Lutheran pastors who were bothered with the incursion and have fled their churches and begun studies to become Roman Catholic priests. It mentions the priests who forsake the Lutheran fold including Reverends Wilhelm Schwenold, Karl-Heinz Tillman and Gerhard Betzner. It notes that conservatives in the U.S. have fused control of the administration and seminars of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod members at the cost of a serious schism.
