Abstract
- The article focuses on the dangers faced by correspondents that reside in Peking, China. It notes that John Burns from "Toronto Globe and Mail" had been able to travel fairly in the country and had developed a good relationship with a number of Chinese officials. It also notes that Chinese people allowed the resident foreign press corps to increase from 18 to 42 reporters after the birth of the Ping Pong diplomacy. It states that the correspondents must live in a segregated foreign quarter and are not allowed to have provincial newspapers and interviews with knowledgeable Chinese. It adds that none of the resident foreign correspondents knew the Tenth Communist Party Congress which was convened in the Great Hall of the people.
