Abstract

The article describes reasons for absence of euphoria in the celebration of Communist party chairman Mao Tse-tung army's triumph over the nationalists during 1949 on October 1, 1971 in Peking, China. It explores the possible reasons behind the absence of euphoria in the celebrations. It describes the reason to be the speculations about the demise of Mao and Defense Minister and Vice Chairman Lin Piao. It also discusses the speculation on the involvement of a Chinese defector former President Liu Shaochi regarding whom important papers and documents were found in the wreckage of a Chinese air force plane crash in Northeast Mongolia.
