Abstract

The article reports on American students and recent graduates visiting Europe in summer, which has become a rite of passage for American youth. 18-year-old John Segall said that thousands of his friends are going, as he queued up to get his passport in New York. Most young Americans abroad spend little for gifts, souvenirs, meals or lodging.
