Abstract

The article discusses ageism and the devaluation of aged in the U.S. As reported, one of the trends of U.S. life is the gradual devaluation of older people. As stated, it is not just cruelty and indifference that cause ageism and emphasize the obsolescence of the old, it is also the nature of modern Western culture. As mentioned, in the modern U.S., learning about the past is considered irrelevant due to small family units, generations living apart, and rapid social changes. There is an increasing job discrimination against the aged, and against the middleaged in the U.S.
