Abstract

The article focuses on the launch of pitchers Burt Hooton of Chicago Cubs and Pete Broberg of Washington Senators in professional baseball in the U.S. in June 1971. Broberg was reportedly recruited for about 150,000 dollars, which is said to be the highest bonus ever given by a Washington baseball team. Hooton was trained by the Cubs to focus on throwing strikes and avoid challenging the batters. Also noted is the performance of Broberg in a match against the Boston Red Sox held in RFK Stadium in Washington D. C. on June 27.
