Abstract
- Chapter Three of the book "Modernity's Wager: Authority, the Self and Transcendence," by Adam B. Seligman is presented. It continues the arguments regarding constituted understanding of selves while using the themes of moral luck, collective responsibility, and the experience of shame to contend for an extended but not fully autonomous comprehension of self. It allows for a deeper understanding of personhood than more liberal-individualistic and autonomous readings.
