The Economic Base Identification: An Appraisal.

It is the purpose of this paper to review and appraise some conceptual problems in the field of economic base identification, suggest an alternative approach to the problems, and implement a case study. Many different units of measure such as income, payrolls, employment, value added, and sales can be used to quantify economic activity of a community.
