Abstract
- This paper proposes an efficient traffic model for Internet Protocol (IP)-over-Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) optical networks with full wavelength conversion at the nodes. An efficient traffic model was derived using Wavelet Neural Network (WNN) model to compute the future traffic on links of the network with Normal Traffic Distribution (NTD). The carried traffic on a link in the network is reduced proportionately based on the blocking probability of the other links on the route. The blocking probability of the network is estimated using analytical model for NTD. The channel utilization at a particular load is derived using the blocking probability. Thus, the new traffic model gives an estimate of the blocking probability and the channel utilization at any given load and is applicable to any network topology. The carried traffic was computed for a few networks, such as 14 node NSFNET and 20 node ARPANET, and the analytical results were validated with simulations. It is shown that the new traffic model performs well in terms of Quality of Service (QoS) parameters such as blocking probability and utilization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
