Abstract
- The article reports on the implications of the return in 1979 of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini after 15 years of exile. It states that Khomeini's return has been welcomed by many Iranians devotedly subservient under his influence. It adds that the Ayatollah has never changed his stand for his disapproval of an Iranian government under the rule of Prime Minister Shahpour Bakhtiar. It also stresses that conflicts among the members of the Iranian military became evident as some of them are adherents of the Ayotallah. However, the U.S. government rebuked Khomeini and asserted that he should support the administration of Bakhtiar. It also says that even if Khomeini succeeds in creating an Iranian republic, the problems of the country such as crime and poverty will still be left unaided.
