Abstract
- The article focuses on the scheduled visit of Pope John Paul II in Mexico and Poland. It says that the Pope's decision to go to Mexico was bold due to the conflict between the church and state in the history of the nation. It adds that Mexico lacks formal diplomatic relationship with the Vatican despite its Catholic population of 92 percent. An activist priest also warns that the Mexican visit of the Pope might be a disaster for the supporters of liberation-theology as well as for the progressives, while several politicians are worried on the political impact of the Pope's visit. It also states that the Pope will possibly visit Poland in May 1979 for the 900th anniversary of the martyrdom of Saint Stanislaw, depending on the approval of the Polish government.
