Abstract

The article discusses the presumed coup and assassination against Uganda President Idi Amin Dada, also known as Big Daddy. It states that Amin disappeared from view and resurfaced through Radio Uganda announcements. It says that the assumptions started when anti-Amin Kenya press reported that Amin was ambushed by a squad led by an Ugandan army major and had escaped with minor wounds. It adds that 13 Ugandan military officers and civil servants sought protection in Kenya because of the alleged hostility of Amin's security forces. It mentions the doubt on the possible disturbance in the country since Big Daddy was said to be very fit which seems to contradict the believed reports. However, it says that Western diplomats in Kenya were inclined to believe the assassination attempt.
