Abstract
- The article offers Chiang Ch'ing, the wife of communist leader, Mao Zedong, and focuses on her accession to and fall from power. It briefly talks about Chiang Ch'ing's personal life and explores her career as an actress. It discusses her political activities, highlighting her role in China's cultural revolution and her involvement with the "Gang of Four," a radical group of top officials whose supposed goal was to seize supreme power for themselves. It states that Chiang Ch'ing's influence fell after the death of Mao, which later led to her arrest. Furthermore, it also notes American Sinologist Roxane Witke's effort in accounting Chiang Ch'ing's life.
