Abstract
- The article offers information on Tibet, China as being reported by "TIME" diplomatic editor Jerrold L. Schecter during his journey with former U.S. Defense Secretary James Schlesinger in the said region. It says that over the Tibetan capital of Lhasa, known as the Place of Gods, the golden roof of the Potala Palace could be seen. Potala is considered as a cultural relic and the temporal seat of the Dalai Lama, wherein it was designed as labyrinth and spiritual sanctuary. It adds that Potala is used in teaching Tibetan culture and language. Tibet has 25% of China's area, but accounts for less than 1% of China's total population totaling to 850 million. It mentions that Buddhism is no longer practiced in the region and that less than a dozen of 5,000 former monasteries are functioning.
