Abstract
- The article focuses on the diplomatic approach of Greek Premier Constantine Caramanlis during the pursuit of the Turkish exploration vessel, Sismik-1, in the Aegean Sea in August 1976. It mentions that the Greek government had angrily threatened naval intervention before the vessel entered the Aegean Sea, and demanded a United Nations Security Council session to stop the ship. It states that Caramanlis, despite being advised to sink the ship by Greek military commanders, appealed to the International Court of Justice for a quick ruling and sent a Greek oil-exploration vessel, Nautilus, out on its own survey of the Aegean.
