Abstract

The article discusses the political turmoil during the administration of Premier Aldo Moro. It states that his Christian Democratic minority government was more threatened by the protest of Italian feminists to overturn anti-abortion laws compared to the divorce referendum that divided Moro's party. It explores the political accordance between the Christian Democrats and communists wherein the former would govern but the latter would participate in decisions regarding abortions and other major issues. It suggests that such alternative made the Christian Democrats seek to force a better parliament accord and thus left the country with no other political choice.
