Abstract
- The article offers information on minibags, a small handbag which became a fashion trend in 1975 with a rapid sales increase. The minibags are smaller than a standard envelope which can be hand clutched and slung across the shoulders. The small handbags vary in prices from 1.50 dollars to over 100 dollars per piece depending on the materials used, such as the simple vinyl bagatelle minibag designed by Shirl Miller with one million pieces sold at eight dollars per piece. Fashion designer Vera Maxwell says that minibags seemed impractical due to its small cargo space, but people wanted it for an elegant casual look and saved them from purse snatchers because of its size. Moreover, the minibags were introduced in the fall resort-wear fashion collections in New York City and Paris, France.
