Abstract

The article discusses the trials and decisions for treason and insurrection of former Greece Dictator George Papadopoulos along with his 19 co-defendants at Korydallos Prison in Athens, Greece. Papadopoulos says to Court President Ioannis Deyannis that he will only answer to history and Greek people, resisting to enter a plea in his defense. It states that Papadopoulos was sentenced to death along with chief aides in the 1967 coup, Nicholas Makarezos and Stylianos Pattakos, before a firing squad. Meanwhile, men of Greek military police (ESA) who were alleged to be the inquisitors of the Papadopoulos regime also faced trial before a military tribunal. Moreover, the courts also try to find out the involvement of American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in the coup.
