- This section offers sports news briefs as of June 21, 1976. Bobby Clarke of the Philadelphia Flyers supported the National Hockey League's decision to introduce stringent penalties against game-related violence. The U.S. National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Amateur Athletic Union both accused the President's Commission on Olympic Sports of favoring either party when it created new rules governing amateur athletics in the U.S. Profit took precedence when Macadam cart paths were put along the fairways of the Pebble Beach Golf Links.
