Abstract

In this article the author discusses the case of a 66 year old Muslim woman who received recommendations to have an eye with intense pain caused by keratitis removed, and whose son, who controlled her medical decisions, opposed to the removal based on religious reasons. The author is supportive of the work that a hospital ethics committee could do to help resolve an impasse which is seen in this case.
