Abstract

The article discusses the career of U.S. portrait and landscape painter Furman Finck and his interest in medical-related subjects for his paintings. He has been chosen to create portraits for medical school authorities at the Medical School of Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for his knowledge, painting skills and experience. According to Finck, artist and physician J. Walter Levering was the one who first invited him to observe medical operations and surgical procedures that have been the focus of his artworks.
