Abstract
- The article discusses career prospects in higher education, particularly those of R. Carter Hailey, who is a bibliographer and an expert on paper-making and early modern printing, and his difficulties finding a full-time job. The nature of bibliography as an academic discipline is discussed, particularly the attention to detail that analytical bibliographers must have, and how valuable the field is in literary scholarship. English professor David L. Vander Meulen of the University of Virginia (UVa) discusses bibliography and English studies as a discipline. Associate professor Ann R. Hawkins of Texas Tech University comments on the need to teach bibliography.
