Abstract
- The article discusses research on the first record of Loxodontomys pikumche at the Central Andes in Argentina. It references a study by Agustina Novillo at the Grupe de Investigacion en Biodiversidad in Mendoza, Argentina, and her colleagues, published in an issue of "Mastozoologia Neotropical." The researchers studied the habitat, karyotype, skull as well as the external characters of the new species. They conclude that the discovery of L. pikumche supports the significance of the Andes as a major mountain ecosystem, which is comprised of singular but rich diversity of small mammals.
