Abstract

The article presents an analysis of the impact of the 2008-09 recession in Canada which was the least severe and shorter amongst the Group of Seven nations. Data related to its labour market, exports, corporate income, savings rates, financial institutions and gross domestic product is presented. The author attributes the strong balance sheets, large pool of savings, strong commodity prices and the absence of problems in financial institutions for the shorter recession and faster recovery.
