Abstract

The article offers the author's insights on the factors that influence plant hardiness in Great Britain. He states that extreme cold is the traditional measure of hardiness and a good predictor of plant survival. He notes that plants struggle to ripen wood against the drop in heat and intensity of sunlight. He mentions that extreme drought and heat can be just as damaging to certain plants as extreme cold. The author also discusses the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) hardiness ratings.
