Abstract
- The article presents an analysis of the work of Charlotte Smith, poet and author of novels and educational books, among others. Reflected in her poetry such as "The Emigrants" and "Elegiac Sonnets" are Smith's experiences as an exile from France and from a life that could have been hers except for a bad marriage and laws on property ownership. The author points out that besides exile, Smith had a political agenda as evidenced in "Desmond," which was pro-revolution and her subsequent novel "The Banished Man," which was against the revolution.
