Abstract
- The article discusses the Africa Centre Vertical Transmission Study which aims to identify the impact of infant feeding practices on HIV infection rates of infants at 6 and 22 weeks of age. Conducted in the rural Umkhanyakude district of northern KwaZulu Natal in August 2001, the study analyzed a group of 3,445 pregnant women. Researchers found that HIV positive women are at a significantly increased risk of pregnancy complications.
