Abstract
- The author provides an account of explanatory depth that preserves the explanatory autonomy of the nonfundamental sciences. He defends the view that there are contexts in which it is possible for the nonfundamental sciences to provide deeper explanations than those provided by fundamental physics. He also argues that autonomy is a desideratum of an account of explanatory depth and that two otherwise attractive accounts of explanatory depth failed to meet it.
